PRE-OPERATIVE STUDY
ANALYSIS AND EXAMINATIONS BEFORE SURGERY

Paola will book you your FIRST VISIT, which is offered by our Institute free of charge. During this visit you will be able to speak to one of the surgeons from the Bariatric Team and ask for any information you may need concerning the relative treatment course and the surgical treatments available. During this preliminary visit the surgeon will evaluate whether or not there are any contraindications to surgical treatment. The Patient Manager, who will be present at this preliminary visit, will collect your personal details and will act as your personal guide throughout the pre-operative period.

PRE-OP ANALYSIS AND EXAMINATIONS
ENDOCRINE-METABOLIC ASSESSMENT after running the following tests:
• Haemachrome, liver and kidney function tests, cholinesterase test, protein electrophoresis, iron, ferritin, vitamin B12, 25OH vitamin D, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, zinc, copper, uric acid test, lipid determination, TSH, FT4, total testosterone, FSH, LH, PTH, homocysteine.
• Hepatic markers and HIV
• Blood group.
• PT, aPTT and fibrinogen
• OGTT for glycaemia and insulinemia, glycated hemoglobin
• Suppression test  with 1 mg of desametasone, salivary cortisol (if pathological not indication for bariatric surgery).

ABDOMINAL ULTRASOUND SCAN and X-RAY OF DIGESTIVE TRACT if required

EGDS (oesophageal-gastro-duodenal endoscopy) and gastroenterological examination

cardiac exam, ECG under strain, cardiac echo and eco-colour carotid doppler exam (if deemed necessary).

pneumological examination,  pfr ( pulmonary function tests) and polysomnograph.

vertebral and femoral BONE densitometry WITH morphometry

NUTRITIONAL EXAMINATION

DIETARY ASSESSMENT with the introduction of a personalized diet

psicodiagnostic assessment
2 meetings are envisaged:
1. Collection of clinical information and personal history and administering of tests
2. Return and discussion of the most important clinical data.

At the end of the observation period, assessable on an individual basis, the MULTISPECIALIST TEAM, which meets periodically, will decide whether or not the patient is eligible for surgical treatment.

SURGICAL EXAMINATION
During this examination the patient is told if and which surgical treatment would be effective based on all the information collected during the PREOPERATIVE ASSESSMENT PERIOD. At this time the Informed Consent form is signed.
Prior to surgical treatment a complete series of tests will be carried out:
Chest X-ray
Routine preoperative blood tests pre-operative anaesthesia assessment for calculating surgical risks.

At this point the patient may undergo the SURGICAL TREATMENT agreed upon.
