THE HOSPITAL STRUCTURE
The State Hospital of the Republic of San Marino, thanks to its facilities and personnel can guarantee:
- medical care for hospitalized patients with round the clock care for the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses which require urgent or emergency operations or acute illnesses which cannot be treated in day surgery or at home
- Day Hospital facilities - specialist and diagnostic medical services in outpatients
- rehabilitation services.
In order to reduce hospitalization times a program of reorganization has been launched which envisages the gradual introduction of medical care in Day Hospital and Day Surgery facilities. These are generally short hospital stays (1 - 2 days) which allow the patient to return to his/her own home after only the time necessary to ensure his/her health is no longer at risk after surgery or analysis or treatment has been completed. Traditional hospitalization is reserved for severe cases only and consequently medical care services in the region and home visits to patients will be increased.
INTENSIVE CARE
The overall Anaesthesia, Intensive Care and Antalgic Therapy operating unit at the State Hospital of the Republic of San Marino places its operating facilities and dedicated anaesthetists at the disposal of bariatric surgery procedures. The most modern equipment is available for controlling the respiratory tract, even for difficult cases, administering anaesthetics, monitoring, warming and comfortably positioning the patient on the operating table. Amongst the devices available we have two flexible fibrobronchoscopes, a Bullard laryngoscope, two systems for total intravenous anaesthesia (TCI), BIS monitoring, thermoconvective heating system.
After the operation the patient may need to be placed in Intensive Care for the time necessary to support the patient's vital functions until they are fully restored.
The recently modernized Intensive Care unit has five beds each with a mechanical ventilator and advanced systems for monitoring respiratory and haemodynamic parameters. An intensive care doctor is present around the clock assisted by expert critical care nurses.
A wide range of technologies are available for ventilation (also non-invasive), minimally invasive haemodynamic monitoring systems (Vigileo, Picco2) and the prevention of pressure sores (sequential dynamic anti-decubitus systems). It is possible to perform haematochemical and haemogasanalysis procedures instantly at the patients bedside.
Space is given to communication with patients and their relatives with information packs being provided containing the most important information the patient needs to know for his/her hospital stay.
